April Weather in Bangkok

April Weather in Bangkok

By Chris QuanUpdated Mar. 2, 2022

Weather: The average maximum daytime temperatures in Bangkok are around 37℃. This is obviously very hot, but since the rainy season is approaching, sudden rains can temper the heat and create a brief oasis of coolness.

Clothing: Since temperatures are so high, vests and shorts will be most appropriate for this month. If you are coming to Bangkok for Songkran, you'll need to bring a water-proof bag to prevent your personal belongings, including clothes and electronic products, from getting wet.

Best Places for Songkran Festival in Bangkok

The well-known Songkran Festival, also known in Thailand as New Year, will be convened in April. Prepare for the most exciting water fight and brace yourself for a soaking!

The liveliest Songkran celebrations will be in Silom. Generally speaking, during the 3 days of Songkran, Silom will be totally free of traffic and the whole street be transformed by a carnival.

The majority of participants will be young people from Bangkok, but with its increase in popularity, there will also be visitors from all round the world.

Participants carry water guns. They walk down the street wiping flour and shooting water on the faces of people they meet. This is to confer blessing in the New Year.

Some groups of young people drive around on pickup trucks and splash water on pedestrians. Your clothes will certainly be soaked.

If have the opportunity to go to Thailand during Songkran, go to Silom to experience the festival's fun.

Khao San Road

Khao San Road has always been a place where tourists gather, especially backpackers. When the Songkran Festival arrives, this place will become a water-fight paradise for all visitors.

If you venture onto any stretch along the entire length of the road during Songkran, then don't expect to leave with your clothes dry.

Beware: Remember not to bring bottles or cans onto the street during the 3 days of Songkran; there will be checkpoints at both ends to confiscate these items. In case you need some alcohol, bars will stay open throughout the festival.

W Hotel

The pool party at the W Hotel will be convened only on April 13th, from 1pm to 8pm. It is one of the best Songkran parties in town. If you are addicted to music and also want to experience the atmosphere of Songkran, this is the best place to go.

Non-Festive Things to Do

In Thailand, more than ninety percent of people believe in Buddhism. Admiration for the Buddha and adherence to Buddhism have always been an integral part of the landscape in Thailand. Visiting a temple will seem like a must-do thing.

Wat Traimit

The Temple of the Golden Buddha, is located at the beginning of Yaowarat Road in Chinatown. It is a perfect starting point if you want to explore Chinatown.

Inside, there is an immense Buddha made of solid gold. It is five meters high and weighs about half a ton. It is the largest of its kind in the world.

Wat Mahatat

The Temple of the Great Relic, was built during the Ayutthaya Period, between 1351 and 1767; probably in the 14th century. It is one of the ten major royal temples in Bangkok, used for royal ceremonies.

The oldest institute of higher education for Buddhist monks in Thailand is also in this temple. Besides, it is also an important center for the study of Buddhism and for meditation.
