Myanmar weather in July is more welcoming in the central area of the country, encompassing Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake. The beaches at Ngapali are closed up in July.
July falls in Myanmar's rainy season, with temperatures hovering around 30°C (86°F). Rainfall reaches its annual peak, with rain usually falling in short bursts, mostly in the afternoons.
Myanmar is good to visit in July
For first-timers there is no reason not to go to Myanmar in July. Highlights in the big four destinations are entirely accessible, with green fields along the roadsides. Just avoid the beaches as they are generally not open for business.
The trip will be rewarding due to fewer tourists and nice accommodation at a good price. The main roads are accessible, not washed out. Flying between the main cities is recommended.

It only rains part of the day, but the weather can be humid and oppressive. The further north you go from Yangon, the less rain you will experience. Yangon itself, however, sees rain almost every day. Floods sometimes occur when street drains are blocked. In some streets you might find yourself knee-deep in water.
Bagan, however, is very dry, with around 23 dry days on average in July. Inle Lake is also relatively rain-free: you may be disappointed by the dull skies, or perhaps be lucky enough to enjoy an amazing sunset with dramatic clouds.
Mandalay has a mix of heavy rains and dry days. Floods do happen but life goes on, only with more boats than usual. Find out 9 Things to know before visiting Myanmar.

Our guide Borin - never boring!
Our guide Borin, in Cambodia, was knowledgeable, understanding and thoughtful in every aspect of the plan he put together for our trip to Siem Reap and in its execution. He can read the room, and knew exactly how to pace the tour, when to pause, when to break, and how to prepare us for the maximum benefit. He is extremely kind and caring, and it showed at every turn. He also is a dab hand with the camera, and we have a lot of great pictures to show for it. Kudos to my Asia Highlights coordinator - Cathy Chen, for picking Borin. Borin works with a driver (007) who was also very kind and caring. Whenever we returned to the car, he would have cold towel rolls and chilled water to refresh us. So amazingly considerate. It was an unforgettable experience More

We've had such a great experience…
We've had such a great experience planning our honeymoon with Alisa at Asia Highlights! We gave her our dream itinerary, thinking that it might be impossible to do all the things we wanted, but Alisa made our dreams a reality! She's gone so far above and beyond to answer ALL of our questions and make little adjustments that will make a huge impact on our experience. More

Trip-of-a-lifetime
In addition, I want to specifically mention the guides provided in certain locations. Rum, in Siem Reap, made the most memorable experience possible. His positivity was contagious - even when it felt like 1000 degrees and we were tired. He brought it all to life, and created a couple days of Ankor Wat, etc. that we will never forget! He heard my daughter's request for specific Cambodian food, and changed our itinerary to go to a village and eat at a locally known shop. He brought the dessert she asked about to us in the car! Overall, he and his driver "Lucky" were a reason to go to Siem Reap. In addition, the other guides (minus one which was switched out immediately) were stupendous. Mon in Bangkok was friendly and provided a great day there; Eak in Chiang Mai gave us a world-class food-tour and day touring the city and its surrounding temples with lots of laughs; Tommy in Hanoi kept us from getting killed in the traffic and gave a stupendous food and architecture/history tour - so very friendly and funny; the fishing village tour in Hoi An, as well as the side-car tour in Saigon, were both unforgettable! Thank you Sharon, and Asia Highlights. Would definitely use again for future trips! More

My daughter and I wanted to discover SE…
My daughter and I wanted to discover SE Asia. Being the first in that region, we wanted to use a tour service company. We ended up using Asia Highlights. From the beginning we were impressed with their services. We left home with of mind because all the pre-travel arrangements were taking care and communicate to us efficiently. All our questions were answered promptly. Once in the countries, we were welcome by our excellent tour guides. Everything was taking care for us. We did not have one issue. They selected the right tours guides for us, they were highly knowledgeable and so much attentive to our needs. We had Dhat in Vietnam and Borin in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I highly recommend Asia Highlights. I came back home so much rested, and with plenty of wonderful pictures and memories. I will definitely use Asia Highlights again for my next trip to Asia. More

Fabulous tour and guide in Cambodia
We have been touring Cambodia, guided by Borin ( and driver 007) for the last 2 days. What a fabulous experience! Borin has been a wonderful guide, the best so far in Southeast Asia, explaining the history and culture of Cambodia through his tours of the temples in and around Angkor, as well as the Landmine museum. He has answered all our questions, made sure we were comfortable, and that we have had great food. 007 made sure we always had enough water and cool towels for our face/neck.We highly recommend Borin as a tour guide for Cambodia!! Best Travel Service for Asia Travel
Alisa Liu was in charge of making the arrangements and she helped us from the start to make all of the arrangements and also helped us when we had questions and requested some adjustments. Her service is of the highest professional level. We are 100% confident that our trip will be perfect. We’re also 100% confident that, if anything comes up during our trip, that Alisa will be there to guide us through and take care of us. We won’t even consider using another agency for travel around Asia and we would like to have Alisa work for us again. More

Tour of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand
The tour guides and drivers were another high point. All were very good, friendly, knowledgeable and spoke English well. There were two that I want to call out for their excellence. Chan Sovannarith in Siem Reap was our guide in Cambodia. He really made the experience special. His knowledge, willingness to answer all my questions, helpfulness and general attitude made him fun to be around. In order to praise the second exceptional guide I have to explain about an unfortunate occurrence that I had. I'm normally a very active senior, but after leaving Cambodia for Laos I was suddenly struck by the most intense back pain I've ever experienced, couldn't even roll over in bed (turned out to be sciatica). The guide, Mr. Sonophet, really went the extra mile. He went with my traveling companion and bought a back brace and medications for me. When that didn't help much he took me to a clinic where I was seen by a doctor, given a shot and pain meds. He hand-made a walking stick for me that I'm still using! He made it possible for me to somewhat participate in the activities, i.e. a bed on the boat down the river. When it was time to move on to Bangkok he got me a wheelchair at the airport. I can't thank him enough for these kindnesses! This problem lasted for the remainder of the trip, through Bangkok and Phuket and these guides were also very helpful getting wheelchairs, etc. It was a terrible disappointment to have this wonderful trip disrupted, but it would have been SO much worse without the great help that I received from the guides and my poor travel companion! Best tour guide in Cambodia
When we first arrived at the airport in Siem Riep it was so nice to be greeted by Mr Sam Ol. We instantly fell at home when we saw his friendly smile. We were impressed by his great English and knowledge of the temples. On the tour to the temples Sam took care of us every step of the way. He took awesome pictures of us. It felt like we were on a tour given by our brother who is also a professional photographer. Also, we appreciate his humor as well as the fact he had an answer for every question we had. I give Sam 5 stars, best tour guide ever :) More

Yangon – rainy and humid
The temperatures are reasonable in Yangon. Average day and night temperatures are 32°C (90°F) and 26°C (81°F), respectively. It rains a lot, with total rainfall of 12.9 inches. Roads become slippery and travel sites are affected. We strongly recommend you do indoor activities in this period. Discover the best time to visit Yangon.
For example, you can visit the National Museum to learn more about Myanmar's art, history and culture. You'll find displays of ancient artifacts, ornaments, paintings, and historic memorabilia inside. It's helpful to have a tour guide.
Taking a ride on the circular train is also a good option. The train is an indispensable means of transportation for locals. On board you can observe farmers taking fruit and vegetables to sell. This is the most authentic everyday life in Myanmar!
Clothing: vest, shorts, hat, umbrella, raincoat, waterproof bag, pants, long-sleeved shirt, non-slip shoes.
Mandalay – hot and humid
In July, rainfall continues to increase in Mandalay, with a total rainfall of 6.1 inches and 15 rainy days. Temperatures are still high, with average day temperature of 30°C (86°F). Overall, July is hot and humid, not suitable for outdoor activities.
Attend the Waso Full Moon Festival, important in Myanmar's Buddhist calendar. It's the anniversary of Buddha's first sermon on the Four Noble Truths and is celebrated nationwide, marking the beginning of the Buddhist Lent.

During the Waso ceremony, all monks pay homage to the Lord Buddha and donors offer food, candles, flowers and monastic robes to monasteries. Monks enter a retreat period for meditation and reflection. It's a good time for people to be reminded of self discipline.
Clothing: Bring a vest and shorts for the daytime and raincoat or umbrella, as it rains a lot. Also bring mosquito repellent to avoid mosquito bites. While on sacred ground, please put on modest clothing that covers shoulders to knees.
Bagan – Hot and Rainy
In Bagan the weather is cloudy, rainy, hot and humid. Rainfall continues to increase, with a total of 4.4 inches. The average temperature is 35°C (92°F) with an average daytime temperature of 38°C (100°F), making it hard to enjoy outdoor visits.
Even so, there are still some fabulous places worth visiting. To escape the midday heat, we recommend you visit Bagan Archaeological Museum.

Here, you can find lots of items, from wood carvings and stone sculptures to metal and lacquer. A tour guide will explain Bagan's long history and interesting culture to you.
Find out more about British Colonial rule in Myanmar.
The puppet show is a great event you should not miss. It's an ancient tradition and also a popular entertainment. Lots of restaurants regard puppet shows as indispensable for tourists at dinner time. Puppeteers manipulate the puppets with unique skill and you will find the show funny and amazing!
Clothing: raincoat, pants, thin coat, vest, shorts, sunscreen, sunhat, umbrella.
Inle Lake – Wet and Cool
The weather is humid and cool, with an average of 25°C (77°F). The highest day temperature is 32°C (89°F) but the temperature drops dramatically to a chilly 15°C (59°F) at night. Total precipitation increases to 10.7 inches and there are 23 rainy days.
As it rains a lot in the rainy season, we recommend you take a cooking class! Normally, a class involves purchasing fresh ingredients from a local market and learning how to cook dishes.

It usually takes a whole day and is a great way of experiencing Myanmar's culture.
Relaxing at a local spa is also a good option for the rainy season. You can leave behind the stress of work and fatigue of body, to enjoy a body massage. A brisk massage can quickly help restore your body's vigor. You will also find some great restaurants at Inle Lake.
Clothing: T-shirt and shorts for the day, a thin coat and long pants at night. Bring an umbrella and raincoat in case of sudden showers. Also bring non-slip shoes for the slippery roads.
Ngapali Beach
In July, Ngapali Beach still suffers a lot from the heavy rains. Due to the unstable weather and strong winds, flights are curtailed, and often canceled. Resorts are closed. Thus, we do not recommend Ngapali in July.
Festival in July
The Waso Full Moon Festival: This is celebrated nationwide and lasts one day. Waso Day commemorates the Buddha's first sermon and the beginning of the Buddhist Lent. It falls in July or August, depending on Myanmar's Buddhist calendar.
Why visit Myanmar in July
As it's the low season, there are fewer visitors. Travel sites are less crowded. Hotels and flights are easier to book and cost lower. Visiting Myanmar in July can make it cheaper for you.
Notes
Rainfall continues to increase. Please take proper precautions when going out. Bring a raincoat in case of sudden showers. Wear non-slip shoes, as roads and pagoda steps are wet and slippery. Keep valuable items in a waterproof bag.
