Tourism in October: October is the last month of the year when Cambodia receives only a few visitors before it enters the peak season. Many 3-star and 4-star hotels offer fantastic deals during this time. There will be only a few outdoor activities that will be open in all the major tourist cities in Cambodia.
You do not need to book a hotel in advance because, during this time of the year, Cambodia has very few visitors.
3 Things to Do in Cambodia in October
As the downpours continue in most parts of the country, usually in the afternoons and evenings, travel comes to a standstill, and most beach resorts remain closed.
Even if you can’t participate in a lot of tourist activities in the coastal areas in October, you can do a lot of fun things in Battambang and Siem Reap.
We recommend the following three activities.
1) Understand the History of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap
Visit the Angkor Wat temples for a tour of one of the world’s top heritage sites. Local tour guides will tell you the legends of the place, take you around for a photo session, and show you the best spots for viewing the sunset.
You should be careful when visiting the Angkor Wat temples in October, because there might be sudden downpours. Come prepared with a raincoat, just in case it starts raining during your outing.
2) Attend the Smokin' Pot Cookery School – Be Your Own Cambodian Chef
Escape the unpredictable weather by attending a 2 to 6 hour long class at the Smokin’ Pot Cookery School, Battambang, and learn how to prepare local Khmer cuisine, authentic dishes, and home-cooked meals.
You will visit the market in the morning to pick fresh vegetables before the lessons begin. Curry paste is a typical dish that you can learn to prepare with the teacher.
Food prices are cheap in this restaurant, and after the lessons, you will be given recipes to take home.
Remember that you need to get to the restaurant before it starts raining.
3) See Crocodiles at Battambang Crocodile Farm – Get a Chance to Feed and Hold Baby Crocs
October is the best time to view the crocodiles enjoying the hot and rainy weather. They will be sunbathing in the morning when the weather is not scorching hot.
Visit the farm early in the morning with your kids. They can get a chance to hold the baby crocodiles and watch them feed under the supervision of the staff.
The farm is located just 4 km (2 miles) from the city center. You can learn more about rearing, feeding, breeding, and looking after crocodiles on the farm.
Open: Monday to Sunday (8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Charge: USD 2
Tour time: Less than an hour
Note: It is the ideal place for curious kids and teenagers who would like to learn about crocodiles.
