July Weather in Cambodia: July Travel Guide for Cambodia

By Wendy Updated Aug. 12, 2021

July is the second wettest month in Cambodia, as it falls in the middle of the rainy season. Rainfall is usually in the form of heavy, intense showers, though sometimes the sun breaks through the overcast skies.

Occasional thunderstorms lead to some spectacular views, particularly at the Angkor temples. Moreover, a number of the temples on the outer periphery are deserted during this time, making it the best time to explore such destinations.

Tips for Visiting Cambodia in July

Clothing: July is one of Cambodia’s wettest months, but the weather is generally hot. Therefore, you should wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes, long-sleeved shirts, and pants that will help protect you from mosquito bites. Jeans are not preferable due to the heat.

Light wool is ideal as it helps regulate body temperature. Moreover, as it is the wet season, carrying a raincoat is a good idea.

Hydration: You should drink lots of water during the day to keep yourself hydrated, considering that it can occasionally get excessively hot.

Tourism in July: As it is the wet season, tourism is low. And due to the fewer number of tourists, most hotels offer excellent accommodation deals and bargains.

After months of rain, Cambodia is lush and green during this time. As a result, the lakes start expanding due to the rise in water levels.

3 Things to Do in Cambodia in July

Although July is one of the wettest months in Cambodia, there are still several exciting places you can visit. You just need to know the best destinations to visit and the best time to do so while factoring in the season.

We recommend making it a point to drop by the following three exciting places:

1. Enjoy the Beautiful Angkor Wat Scenery

Angkor Wat has received honorary recognition from UNESCO as a World Heritage Center, and the city is one of the best destinations to plan a trip to no matter the season. Interestingly, the setting in of the wet season makes the city’s beautiful and astonishing scenery stand out in striking detail.

In July, you can enjoy sightseeing and learning about the rich history of the Angkor temples, monasteries, and colonial architecture that are still standing today.

The ancient Wat Damnak Monastery is a spot worth seeing no matter the season. The monastery is home to the Center for Khmer Studies, which houses a remarkable library on Cambodia’s history. Other sites you can explore in Siem Reap include PrekToalBird Sanctuary and the War Museum.

2. Visit Phnom Penh Prehistoric Attraction Sites

Phnom Penh was known as the Pearl of Asia in the early 20th century. In this city, you can see many French remnants such as the Royal Palace, which dates back to 1866, Independence Monument, a multitude of pagodas, and the famous Wat Phnom.

3. Take a Boat Trip across Lake Tonle Sap

The constant and fierce rainfall make it the best time of the year to visit by boat the flooded forests and floating villages around Lake Tonle Sap. During this time, the lake is enormous due to the torrential downpour.
