Things to Do
February, the driest and one of the least windy months of the year, is a pleasant time for you to do some outdoor activities in Yangon.
Kandawyi Park
One of two major parks in Yangon, is a good place for observing local culture. Located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda, the park is really popular among local people. You can feel the vitality of local people there. It is a nice place for you to walk during the day, with beautiful scenery and lots of shady places. In lovely February, it is also a good spot for watching the stunning sunset along the shore of Kandawgyi Lake.
Myanmar's Union Day falls on the 12th February and celebrations will be held at the People's Square, close to the park. There will be a parade of different ethnic nationalities. Traditional ethnic dances will be performed, along with other entertainment.
Beware: The celebration of Myanmar's Union Day lasts a couple of days, and tourist attractions will be crowded.
Inya Lake
The largest lake in Yangon. It is endowed with clear water and a variety of flowers and greenery. Serenity itself, Inya Lake is a must visit if you want to take a break from downtown in February, with no rain, little wind, and warm temperatures.
You could take a boat round the lake in the morning, to enjoy the special tranquility and get to learn more about the daily lives of Burmese fishermen. As evening comes, strolling along the riverside and watching the breathtaking sunset would make your day. In addition, there is a tower there, which affords a great view of Yangon.
