In Yangon, the weather is extremely hot in April. The average day temperature is 43°C (110°F), which is not suitable for outdoor activities. The average night temperature is 31°C (87°F).

Mandalay – Searing

In April, the most important thing is to participate in the Water Festival (Thingyan), which signifies the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season.

People throughout Myanmar are excited to celebrate, believing that Thingyan water has power to cleanse from sins of the old year.

The last day of the Water Festival is the first day of the Myanmar New Year. People put on new clothes and gather at pagodas to listen to sermons. This will stay with you as an unforgettable experience.

Bagan – Hot and Dry

The highest temperature is around 49°C (120°F) and the lowest is about 31°C (87°F). There are 28 sunny days and rainfall is about 0.5 inches. Bagan is also hot and dry in April!

As it's too hot for outdoor activities, we recommend you stay in your hotel in Bagan, especially from 12 pm to 4 pm. You can enjoy a leisurely time, swimming or using the spa facilities.

Inle Lake – Warm Days and Cool Nights

Average day and night temperatures are 33°C (91°F) and 19°C (67°F), respectively. It is a bit chilly at night. There are 29 sunny days, with an average of 11.2 hours of sunshine per day.

In April, you can participate in the Water Festival (Thingyan) and New Year celebrations. You can observe how locals celebrate New Year in a different way.

It's recommended for you to cruise round the lake to explore how Intha people make their living. Or you can visit the "floating gardens", made from reeds, weeds, mud and bamboo. Intha people plant various vegetables and tomatoes on their floating farmland. It's very special and amazing.

Ngapali – Sunny and Dry

Shwemawdaw Pagoda Festival: This is convened in Bago and lasts 8 days. People make donations to the pagoda and listen to sermons.

Water Festival (Thingyan): The Water Festival is a nationwide celebration and lasts 5 days. It is one of the activities to celebrate the Myanmar New Year.

People believe that Thingyan water has power to wash away the year's sins and to welcome back sustaining rains that feed lush jungles. It's good fun to participate in the water-fights.

Myanmar New Year: People throughout Myanmar celebrate New Year on the last day of the Water Festival (Thingyan). They put on new clothes for visiting elders, listen to scriptures, make donations to pagodas, and enjoy live performances.
