Night Market Experience

Shopping at a night market is an exciting and pleasurable experience. Whether you are shopping for a suit or are just bargain hunting, or looking for that extra special 'something' for someone back home, shopping in Thailand can be fun.

Street vendors often seem to be on every street corner, showing you their goods (with a calculator in hand) from silk scarves, hammocks and sarongs to laser pens. If you are interested in any of the wares you find, then it is time to start bargaining. If you are not interested in what is on offer, simply smile and continue on your way.

The market is also surrounded by an impressive choice of stands selling prepared food, from grilled satay (chicken, pork or beef brochettes dipped in coconut cream, chili and peanut butter sauce) to barbecued fish, from fried squid egg or steamed crab to cakes and sweets (kanom in Thai).

A large choice of drinks is also available – fresh orange juice, fruit shakes and beers – and there even is an original stall that sells cocktails. There are also musical performances throughout the evening with children playing Thai tunes on traditional instruments. The night market is a must-visit if you are in Krabi.

Traditional Dance Shows

The traditional Thai dance is symbolic of the Thai character itself. The art form is very strict, employing 108 basic movements and keeping the body upright from the neck to the hips, moving up and down using only the knees, and stretching to the rhythm of the music.

A great deal of symbolism is displayed in complex and beautifully executed finger and hand movements. Sometimes specially designed fingernails add to the effect and complement the splendor of the spectacularly ornate costumes. There are several classic dances in Thailand and one of the most famous is Fawn Thai.

Fawn Thai was originally an art performed at the royal courts of old Siam, where precision and beauty were the highlights of every performance. Today, although Fawn Thai is still an integral part of royal performances, the dancers are selected and trained from among the general public and the performances themselves are an event for the general public.

It is usually performed by four to six pairs of dancers, though this number can go up to a 100 for important occasions. This classic Thai dance can be seen at various cultural centers across the country. The costumes are rich in color and style and vary from region to region.

Illumanorah Dance and Light Show

The Illumanorah show is the long awaited nightlife activity, a creative light and sound experience, interpreting the traditional Southern Thai folk tales of the Kinnaree (half bird and half woman figures) with a modern touch, and incorporating the southern dance of Manorah.
