Thailand has a very long list of accommodation to choose from. From family-run guesthouses to upscale luxury resorts ?? it takes time to weigh up which one to choose. You can find high-end accommodation all over the country, especially in the bigger cities, like Bangkok and Chiang Mai, or at beach destinations like Phuket and Pattaya.
The hotels we usually choose are 4-star and up, and they offer everything you can expect from a luxurious hotel: excellent service, plenty of facilities, an elegant yet cozy ambience, a swimming pool, etc. Most of the time, these hotels are really well located inside the city, close to downtown and within walking distance from the points of interest.
Your budget, the hotel location, and your needs are all things to take into consideration when choosing accommodation. We know that choosing the right place is never the easiest of tasks, and we hope this short guide can help you.
Quick Facts
- Choose the accommodation that best fits your needs.
- There is a wide range of hotels and resorts where you can comfortably relax after a long day of sightseeing.
- Hotels come with all the facilities you might want, and they always provide high-quality services.
- At a holiday resort on the beach you can enjoy all the luxuries of accommodation, just a few meters away from the sea.

Average ranking of hotels
In Thailand, there is no strict international hotel ranking. However, all the hotels that we choose for your holiday would be internationally classified as 4-star and above.
Luxury hotels are often 5-star, and their prices for a double room range from USD 250 - 400 per night. Luxury chains like Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental are easily found in any big city and in resort towns. Outside the most popular destinations, 5-star hotels are quite rare, even if some of them may self-rate themselves as such. Compare the prices and read the reviews to make sure.
4-star hotels are cheaper than 5-star ones, but the comfort is almost the same. For example, the Best Western Premier Sukhovit is an outstanding hotel, located in a central position. It offers large rooms with plenty of facilities, a swimming pool, tuktuk service and included breakfast, among others. It can certainly meet your demands. Prices start from USD 100 per night for a double room.
Middle ranking hotels cost between USD 60 and 100. They still offer all the facilities you would find in a more expensive hotel, but their furnishing might be outdated, and they will lack the style of the luxury or boutique hotels.

Three weeks encompassing Vietnam
A special shoutout to our last guide in Bangkok - Ms. Ka-Noon who spoiled us with her kindness and then got us through check in and security for our flight home in record time at that huge Bangkok airport.

Three weeks encompassing Vietnam
Three weeks encompassing Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. Albee Ning arranged everything perfectly. Not a flaw in the whole 3 weeks. Guides, flights (7 in total), hotels, private tours…everything was excellent. Travelling on a private tour gave us so much freedom to change our day if we chose to rest or go somewhere else.

Over the last 5 years we've used Asia highlights twice. And both times we've had fantastic vacations. Would not want to do it any different when we travel to Asia from now on. Sharon was fantastic. Family Trip to Thailand
Our trip to Thailand comprised three generations of the family , ten people and an age range of 4 to 70 so a potentially difficult brief. Our itinerary over two weeks involved four locations, and a number of different trips and tours. From out arrival at an extremely busy Bangkok airport Asia Highlights were terrific. In each location we were met by a smiling , knowledgeable and professional guide who simply made everything easy and stress free for everyone. Our transportation was clean and comfortable . Transport was always ready for us at the agreed time and the drivers were excellent. There were so many highlights enjoyed by all the age groups. The floating houses , railway market and elephant sanctuary were particular favourites. We had one minor glitch with the accommodation in Phuket which was immediately dealt with by Tip. I think we would have struggled to resolve the problem by ourselves.
So, thank you Asia Highlights , Cathy, Tip and tour guides Tanny, Sam and Lisa. It was a memorable holiday and we will be back.

I recommend highly Asia Highlights as a travel company. Our travel consultant Albee took the time to connect with us during the planning process to make sure we were comfortable with our itinerary. When we arrived, we were met by our guide and all the details were attended to. They picked great hotels and tours. I often describe our trip as the trip of a lifetime! Would definitely use them again when we come back to Asia

Asia Highlights and Albee - highly recommended
Asia Highlights is very reliable agency and Albee is an amazing representative of the company. From the moment when we contacted her until our departure, the whole support we received was 6* level. She prepared our trip offer within few hours and afterwards she was extremely flexible to adjust as per our needs. In the period between the offer and the trip, Albee was always available for all our questions and supported us on the best possible way. During the trip she was again flexible to add new activities/transfers and this went on the smoothest possible way. Thank you, Albee and Asia Highlights. Definitely we will approach you again for our next Asian trip

Hotel styles
Hotels can be divided into business hotels in major cities and holiday resorts in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and at beach destinations. In the past years, there has been an increasing number of stylish luxury hotels, designed as small boutique hotels, with excellent service and facilities.
Business Hotels
Many expensive hotels belong to big chains such as Sheraton and Marriott, even if they are way cheaper in the Land of Smiles than in the West. They still maintain premium standard, but you can book a double room for about USD 100. Phuket, for example, has the world's cheapest luxury resorts.
In Bangkok, we usually recommend hotels like Pullmen Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit (5-stars), or Easting Grand Hotel Sathorn Area (4-stars). Both located downtown, they offer high-end service and luxurious accommodation, with spacious rooms, a spa, a swimming pool, restaurants and more. They will make your stay unforgettable, with all the comforts you might want.
Beach Resorts
As said above, beach destinations like Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Phi Phi Don offer a lot of holiday resorts to choose from. Most of them come with a private beach, a swimming pool not distant from the beach itself, a gym, private bungalows or high-standard rooms with balconies, king size beds and much more. Prices range from USD 90 - 200 for a double room, per night.

Service features
The hotels (from 3-star up) have spacious rooms (at least 30sqm) that come with plenty of facilities: Wi-Fi, hair-dryer, safe box, TV, alarm clock, shower, air-conditioner, and some of them provide a crib upon request and have connecting rooms available. Many hotels have also a swimming pool to let you and your kids relax and play.
Daily breakfast is almost always included, usually a buffet with Asian and international type food. Not surprisingly, high-standard hotels have high-standard restaurants, offering elaborated and exquisite Asian and western dishes. Sometimes the finest restaurants are those inside the hotels, with an experienced chef, professional staff, and impeccable service.
How to choose your accommodation in Thailand
When choosing accommodation, there are a few things we have to consider. First of all, the location: When you get to the town, the hotel should be easy to reach, and not too far away from the city's attractions. Always consider also your type of vacation: What do you like to do during the day or after dinner? Do crowded places bother you?
After setting the budget, try to find a good compromise between quality and price. Some hotels may be more expensive, but the services they provide are totally worth it. Last but not least, let's try to listen to everyone who is travelling with you and try to satisfy their needs. Keeping everyone happy is a sure way to having a good vacation.
Location
The location is, of course, extremely important. Many hotels are concentrated in the center of a city, so it will be easy to go out and walk around to visit downtown. However, the vast majority of hotels are still easy to reach from the airport, the train or the bus station.
If you are staying in Bangkok, the places to go to are in the neighborhood of Siam, Sukhumvit, or Silom. They are all downtown, with plenty of restaurants, shops and shopping malls.
Many high-end hotels are located there. As mentioned above, we recommend Pullmen Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit, on Sukhumvit Road, in the heart of the city, close to the train station and the underground, surrounded by restaurants and entertainment areas.
Grand Hotel Sathorn Area, in the Sathorn Business District, one of the newest areas of the city, has direct access to the BTS Skytrain system. For a 3-star hotel in Silom, head to Trinity Silom Hotel, a walking distance from many shopping areas, embassies, and BTS Chong Nonsi Station.
Your type of vacation
What you like to do and what you would like to see decides whether your should stay close to downtown, where often most places of interest are located, or in a more peripheral part of the city, away from the hustle and the noise, and maybe close to tourist sites outside the city.
For family vacations, we recommend hotels with large rooms, a swimming pool, and entertainment for the kids; while for honeymooners it is a good choice to book a boutique hotel or a honeymoon resort.
Set the budget
When deciding on the budget, accommodation is usually the biggest expense. Prices vary between the low and the high season. During low season, you can find 4-star hotels for about USD 80 - 120 per night; while during high season this price will be about 30% higher.
Of course, the more stars a hotel has, the higher the price will be. An extremely comfortable experience in a 5-star hotel will be more expensive than staying in a 3-star one, but of course the quality of the service, the ambience and the facilities will make that choice totally worth it. Try to find a hotel that will fit into your budget and meet your expectations.
As we said above, location is important, and this is true also for your budget. Depending on how far the hotel is from the airport and how far it is from the main attractions, the cost of transportation will have to be considered too, especially when travelling with a lot of people.
Keep everybody happy
Traveling with our loved ones (or with a larger group of people) is a fun experience, but sometimes it might be hard to satisfy everyone. With the aid of an expert, you can choose the most appropriate accommodation and try to meet everyone's expectations.
For family vacations, maybe the most important thing is to keep your kids happy. Choosing a hotel with a swimming pool, a nursery, or offering activities for kids, will help let your kids have fun even inside the hotel. It is also important to look for a hotel with large rooms.
If you go on your honeymoon, we would recommend a honeymoon resort. These are upscale resorts, comfortable, elegant, and luxurious, with an extremely professional service, usually a swimming pool and a spa.
