Theme parks in Japan

Japan is one of the top holiday destinations in the world, and one of the many reasons for going there has to be their awesome theme parks – especially the big three of Disneyland and DisneySea in Tokyo, as well as Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.

Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea

Tokyo Disneyland was established in 1983 by Walt Disney Imagineering, and has hosted over 170 million visitors so far, which is the third most visited theme park in the whole world. The park consists of seven areas in different themes with attractions, shows, restaurants, cafes and shops. The park is often described as "the Magical Kingdom", where visitors would feel as if they are in a fairy tale world.

Tokyo DisneySea is a theme park, based on the Seven Seas, which opened in 2001 right next to Tokyo Disneyland. Tokyo DisneySea is the only Disney theme park in the world to have water as its main attraction. Aside from fun water rides, there are a lot of attractions and shows that can immerse you into the wonderful world of Disney.

Universal Studios Japan

Walking into Universal Studios Japan is just like entering the world of Hollywood! The theme park itself is divided into places reminiscent of places often used in Hollywood movies, and the attractions and shows are also as awe inspiring.

Recently, Universal Studios Japan has incorporated Japan's globally popular culture through its rides, in the Cool Japan section of the park. In it are attractions and rides based on popular anime, video games and even artists!

Opened in 2001, the park is situated at the waterfront of Osaka City, the second largest city in Japan. The park has numerous attractions themed by famous movies such as Harry Potter, Minions, Jaws, Spider-Man, Jurassic Park and more, as well as dynamic live performance shows.

Fuji Q Highland

Fuji Q Highland is famous for having three world record breaking roller coasters. Currently, its Takabisha coaster holds the world record for the steepest roller coaster in the world, with a drop angle of 121°. Aside from its roller coasters, the park is also famous for its Horror Hospital attraction, which has been often featured in various TV programs.

Some of their rides are registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for their speed and height. If you like scary rides, this is the one park you have to visit.

Legoland Japan

Legoland is Japan's first Lego theme park, opened in 2017, which is located in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. The theme park consists of seven areas, themed by different Lego worlds, including several rides and attractions.

There is an area called Miniland, which is a miniature town made with 10,496,352 Lego blocks, displaying some of the country's most iconic landmarks such as Tokyo Station, Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto and Nagoya Castle. The park also offers a factory tour which presents the manufacturing of Lego bricks. There are shops and restaurants that serve special menus and merchandise.

Sanrio Puroland

Sanrio Puroland is an indoor amusement park, located in Tama City, Tokyo. The park is dedicated to cute and adorable Sanrio characters including the world's beloved Hello Kitty. There are numerous themed rides, attractions and live shows of popular Sanrio characters.

The park's restaurant/cafe offers character themed dishes and desserts which are highly popular among visitors. Merchandise of the same theme can also be bought at the park. Its location is in Tama City, which is a suburb of Tokyo and can be accessed within 30 mins from the city center. Since the amusement park is indoors, it's also recommendable on a rainy day.

Nagashima Spaland

Nagashima Spaland is a large amusement park, located in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, outside of Nagoya City. The park features several roller coasters, thrilling rides, kids-friendly attractions and a water park. It's the second largest amusement park in Japan after Tokyo Disneyland.

Nagashima Spaland is a part of Nagashima Resort which is comprised of five amusement facilities, including Nabana no Sato flower park, well-known for its winter illumination event from autumn to spring.

Aside from the great and thrilling rides in this park, its Steel Dragon 2000 holds the Guinness Record for the longest roller coaster in the world.
