Traveling from Kyoto to Kobe by train is an adventure that blends speed and comfort, whether you're on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi, the JR Special Rapid Service, or the Hankyu Railway. It is the top choice for many travelers.
Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen: The Best Way
The Shinkansen is the fastest way to travel between Kyoto and Kobe.
- Line: Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen from Kyoto Station to Shin-Kobe Station
- Journey time: approximately 30 minutes.
- Frequency: Trains run frequently, approximately every 10-20 minutes.
- Cost: starting from US$19 to US$45, depending on the ticket type.
The Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen line departs from the bustling Kyoto Station. You can board either a Nozomi or Hikari train.
The Nozomi, the fastest of the Shinkansen services, takes you to Shin-Kobe Station in a mere 30 minutes.
The Hikari, slightly slower but equally comfortable, reaches Shin-Kobe in slightly over 30 minutes, making only a few additional stops along the way.

Incredible Service and Flexibility
We did a two week trip with Asia Highlights to Tokyo, Nikko, Hakone, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka and a private side trip to Koyasan. There is no way I can summarize all the good things we experienced in Japan from the food, the cultural shows, the nation's natural beauty, the sense of service by Japanese and more. For those considering a tour with Asia Highlights I cannot recommend them enough. The two words I'd use to describe them are "flexibility" and "service". More
